Welcome to Dev WP! This is the first post ever on this website, and hopefully the first in a series of many. If you just came here for our mini-contest, head on to the end of the article.

What exactly is it that I’m doing here?

Now, I’m sure at least some of you are wondering what this site is all about. Dev WP’s goal is to educate the entire world wide web with articles, tutorials and guides on how to use WordPress. Not through lengthy, theoretical articles but through practical articles.

Throughout our articles, we will be using a simple but elegant theme, so the various codes we implement will always be consistent. It also gets you a free theme, how about that?

Of course, that’s not all. We’ll be giving you a constant flow of updates on both free and paid themes, must-have plugins and important developments in the WordPress community.

Okay, you’ve got me hooked

but you’ve got one final question? We can guess which one, since we’ve been asked it frequently. Why the simple theme? We decided against a magazine-styled layout since these types of layouts only have their benefits when you have tons of content.

Obviously, we haven’t got such an immense catalog of content, yet, so we decided it would be pretty useless. Like most people say, less is more. We thought we’d implement that for now, but expect changes to the layout as soon as the content might outgrow the theme. Basically, if you’d want a bigger, badder & cooler layout, participate and make this site popular!

We’ll also be launching a submit page where you’ll be able to submit a WordPress tip you simply can’t live without. If we think it’s worth to be put on our site, you’ll even be given a reward!

Are you still reading? Good, because now comes the good stuff.

We need you!

That’s right! Our hope is to get you to keep coming back and for that, we need quality content: articles that address the needs of our visitors. That’s why we’re having a little launch competition.

We won’t be launching any articles until the 7th July. Why not? Because we want to know what articles you want! Simply post a comment stating what you’d like to see on our site. Then we’ll put all the people who made decent suggestions into a jar and pick out 5 lucky people who will receive $10. It’s no shocking amount of money but it might just come in handy for those impulse buys and your WordPress question gets answered.

There are no specific rules, but please keep the suggestions specific. No comments like “I’d love to see articles about WordPress skinning” but “I always wondered how you do alternating row colors“.

Each suggestion counts as one chance to win $10, so you could win $50 if you’re a really lucky guy or girl.

Payment will be via PayPal. If you’ve got any more questions, don’t hesitate to post them! And while I’m at it, don’t forget to subscribe to our RSS feed. You don’t want to miss out on any important updates!
